Everything You Need To Know About Beard Oil

Spencer Bryce |

Beard Oil isn't new, but it is something a lot of beardsmen use wrong, or partially wrong, all the time.

For those of you who aren't sure what Beard Oil does, and how or when to use it, we'll cover everything you need to know below.

If you already use Beard Oil, good for you, and keep reading as you may learn a thing or two.

Beard Oil Is Not For Your Beard

Weren't expecting that? Well, it's true. And it's also one of the biggest misconceptions of beard grooming.

Beard Oil is actually designed for the skin under your beard, to mimic your natural sebum oil production and is intended to keep your skin moisturized and healthy.

Without a beard, your body produces enough sebum oil to keep your face moisturized. But as you grow a beard, the hairs actually draw away the oils from the surface of your face, leaving your skin dry.

If left untreated, your skin will quickly become irritated, flaky, and extremely uncomfortable.

This is one of the main reasons why guys shave their beard after only a couple of weeks. They can't take the itch, and rather than solving the problem (applying beard oil daily), they simply give up and shave.

What Beard Length Needs Beard Oil?

Now that you've learned Beard Oil is not for your beard, you may not be surprised to hear that beard length has no impact on the need for Beard Oil.

The moment you put the razor down and start growing is when your skin will become increasingly more dry which is why we recommend applying Beard Oil daily within the first few days of beard growth to avoid the uncomfortable stages entirely.

If you shave your beard off to regrow it (not recommended), you'll be quickly reminded of how important beard oil is early on!

As you continue to grow a longer beard, Beard Oil is still necessary to continue keeping the skin moisturized. By doing so, you'll not only avoid the discomfort, but you'll give your beard a healthy environment to grow in which can lead to healthier, better beard growth.

How Often Should You Apply Beard Oil?

Now there are a few things to consider when finding the right frequency for your beard oil use.

If you live in a very hot and dry place like we do here in Arizona, that climate will impact how dry your skin and hair are naturally. Same is true if you live in a very humid environment.

But as a general rule of thumb, we recommend you apply Beard Oil every day. Because it's all-natural and not full of any alcohol or nasty chemicals, it's only going to be helpful to your beard.

For me I work it into my morning routine alongside my general hygiene like brushing my teeth and applying deodorant. I always follow with Beard Butter to style and Mustache Wax, of course.

How To Apply Beard Oil

Because it's designed for your skin, I recommend you dab 4-5 drops of Beard Oil onto your palm, rub your hands together, and really work the oil under the beard hairs and onto the skin.

I like using my fingertips to really get in there, and make sure to focus on some of the areas that get dry fast like the chin, under the lips, and under-beard. This will keep your skin moisturized and healthy and your beard growing strong.

Any extra beard oil can be applied into the beard hairs themselves, and any extra beyond that can be applied to your head hair, hands, or any other part of your body. It's just going to act as a great all-natural conditioner and leave you smelling great!

Should You Apply Beard Oil In The Morning Or Night?

Now this really comes down to personal preference but I apply oil every day as part of my morning beard routine...

Step 1: Beard Wash & Conditioner

Step 2: Beard Oil

Step 3: Beard Butter + Mustache Wax

While the Mustache Wax is optional, the others are our recommend beard grooming routine for the best beard, period.

We offer this as our Complete Beard Kit which allows you to bundle and save.

If you feel you need a little extra moisturizing of the skin, you can apply Beard Oil in the evening, but I would recommend going light on the oil as you want it to fully absorb into the skin and not sit on the beard as it may get all over you pillow.
