Beards In History: Epictetus
Nathan Daggett |
Epictetus: Stoic Philosopher
Stoic Philosopher Epictetus firmly believed a beard was an integral part of a man's identity.
In fact, he went as far as to say he would rather be executed than shave.
Other Notable Epictetus Quotes:
"It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters."
"We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak."
"No man is free who is not master of himself!"
"It is impossible to begin to learn that which one thinks one already knows."
Epictetus was clearly a man after our own hearts, and was willing to go to great lengths to show respect for his beard.
