Though genetics play a significant role in beard growth, there are a few ways you can side step some less than desirable beard genetics to grow a better beard.

Here are 5 beard growth secrets you need to know.

Stay Hydrated

I wanted to start with this one because, well, water is vital for life in general, and very important for your beard growth and health.

Though it can vary, on average 15-25% of your hair is made up of water.

Staying hydrated can help retain moisture to your hair which makes it stronger, and helps aid in nutrient delivery to your hair follicles.

It’s also essential for healthy skin, which is important to create a favorable environment for hair follicles to thrive and grow to their full potential.

Speaking of healthy skin...that brings me to my next point.

Nourish your skin

Beard growth doesn’t just mean taking care of your beard hairs, although that’s important, too.

Whether you’re just starting to grow a beard or your beard is already well on it’s way to greatness, you need to take care of your skin to get the most out of your beard growth.

This is why beard oil exists. To moisturize your skin.

By using beard oil daily, even in the earliest of stages, you’ll create a healthy environment for better beard growth.

You should also use a boars hair brush in a circular motion on your cheeks and beard area to bring stimulate blood circulation. This will help nourish hair follicles and promote growth.

If you don’t have a boars hair brush, you can use your fingertips to gently massage your face as an alternate solution. It’s not quite as effective, but a great option.

A great beard starts from within

Though you can’t change your genetic makeup, you can certainly influence the nutrients you feed your body.

If you’re looking to improve your beard growth, look to your diet to include protein, vitamins A, B, C, and E, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids.

You can get these nutrients by incorporating foods like fish, eggs, nuts, fruits, and vegetables into your meals.

Eating healthy is always recommended, but you can always supplement to ensure you’re getting these vitamins daily as well.

Consider cold showers

Cold showers might not sound appealing, but they can have potential benefits for beard growth.

Cold water can improve blood circulation which as I previously mentioned, can stimulate and promote growth. They can also increase alertness and energy, and improve your overall mood and mental well being.

To me, cold water builds resiliency that you can use in other areas of your life, so I highly recommend giving cold showers a shot.

And if you don’t want to take a cold shower, I get it, at least consider finishing on cold.

Embrace the process

Growing a beard takes a serious amount of time and patience, and in the initial stages of you beard journey, it may appear patchy or uneven.

This is absolutely normal.

Resist the urge to shave or trim too much as the longer hairs will start to cover any thin spots as you continue growing.

If you feel like your beard simply isn’t filling in, give it time.
