Our Beard Butter Recipe

What's up fellas?!! Today we are going to get into beard butter. Specifically, Live Bearded beard butter and breaking down every friggen ingredient we put into it!

But before we hop into that, let's lay some beard butter ground work.

What is Beard Butter?

Well, Beard Butter is the perfect medium hold, smooth, creamy, buttery when melted beard conditioner that falls in line between beard oil and beard balm. It's a must have product for beards that want to stay healthy and styled, grow fuller and faster, and look and smell great.

What is Beard Butter used for?

Beard Butter is used to deep condition and shape and/or style your beard. It tames fly away hairs, helps control your beard, and gives your beard a nice, medium weight hold that isn't greasy, tacky, or too heavy like a bead balm would be.

Beard Butter vs Beard Balm?

Most beard balms can be heavy and on the greasy side because of the bees wax that is used to make them. They tend to leave a tackier feel to the beard and can leave your face feeling oily. For complete styling control over the beard, they work well.

In contrast, our beard butter contains ZERO bees wax, so it goes on smoother and much lighter, while still giving you styling control over your beard and allowing you to tame those fly away hairs that have a mind of their own some days.

In my opinion, beard butter gets you where you wanna go, but in a much lighter and cleaner manner.

Side story? Before I was introduced to Live Bearded, I was a beard balm user. I never really liked how oily it made my beard and skin, but it was all I knew so I marched forward with it. I had never heard of beard butter until my buddy introduced me to it at work one day. Once I tried it, I never looked back. It has such a lighter weight in my beard and does not make my skin feel greasy. I enjoyed it so much, I started looking into Live Bearded as a company. Long story short...a year or so later, I was working for Live Bearded, all thanks to beard butter!

How to apply beard butter?

A little bit of this stuff goes a long way, so be sure not to use too much! Applying Beard Butter is a simple and enjoyable part of my daily routine. Simply scoop out around a quarter sized amount of butter and rub it in your hands until it melts and your hands are covered in the melted butter. Once your hands are coated in the melted butter, massage it into your beard. Be sure to get it underneath and all over your beard. Once you have your beard well conditioned with the beard butter, comb and or brush your beard to your liking!

I personally apply beard butter after every shower. So whether that is once or twice a day, no harm done! If you do apply after you shower, be sure your beard isn’t dripping wet before applying.

Live Bearded’s All Natural Beard Butter Recipe

Alright, now that we got the basics of beard butter outta the way, let’s get into what makes our all natural, world class, infamous, top quality, most reviewed, bad ass, mf’ing beard butter recipe the best beard butter in the entire damn f’ing galaxy.

Our Ingredients:

Shea Butter - Shea butter is fat that’s extracted from the nuts of the shea tree. Shea Butter’s exceptional moisturizing property is due to several natural moisturizers present in the cream. The moisturizers in Shea Butter are the same moisturizers produced by the sebaceous glands in your skin. If you understand the concept that the skin sebaceous glands produce moisturizers for the skin, then it’s simple to see that Shea Butter is such an awesome moisturizer.

Shea butter has been used as a key cosmetic ingredient forever. Its high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids — combined with its smooth and silky consistency — make it a great product for conditioning beards. Shea butter also contains high levels of linoleic acid and oleic acid. These two acids balance each other out, which means shea butter is easy for your skin to fully absorb and won’t make your skin look oily after applying beard butter!

Coconut Oil - is the oil extracted from the edible, fleshy “meat” of a coconut, which is actually called the “kernel” of the coconut. The oil is extracted through a few different methods methods, which is why you’ll see different types of coconut oil available, including refined and unrefined.

Coconut Oil is an excellent beard conditioner and helps the re-growth process of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for hydrating and healing damaged hair. This thick, butter-like oil helps in the healthy growth of your hair and gives a shine to those sexy beard strands.

Jojoba Oil - is the liquid produced in the seed of the Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) plant, a shrub, which is native to southern Arizona, southern California, and northwestern Mexico. The oil makes up approximately 50% of the jojoba seed by weight.

Jojoba oil has an oily composition, so it can be used as a moisturizer. It can also be added to hair conditioners(beard butter) to give you added protection against dryness, breakage, and split ends. Jojoba oil can also moisturize the skin and help prevent dandruff.

Jojoba is rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish hair to keep it healthy, including vitamin C, B vitamins, vitamin E, copper, and zinc.

Because jojoba strengthens hair, it is also thought that jojoba oil can prevent hair loss and promote hair thickness because the oil moisturizes hair follicles, which prevents dryness that can lead to hair loss.

Avocado Oil - is pressed cold from the flesh of the avocado, which is rich in fat and can contain up to 30% oil! (By contrast, the pit only contains about 2% oil.) Avocado oil is primarily processed for cosmetics, because it can rapidly absorb into the skin.

Fresh avocados are extremely rich in vitamins A, D, and E, in addition to potassium and lecithin. These vitamins work on a deeper level by penetrating into the skin and strengthening your beard hair. Vitamin B also supports hair growth, while Vitamin E is associated more with the repairing of hair damage.

The monounsaturated fatty acid present in avocado oil is even higher than that of extra virgin olive oil and is one of the prime reasons why it is so good for your hair. Many people suffer from dry, damaged and weak hair due to chemicals or environmental pollution. Monounsaturated fats, when applied directly to your beard hair, will nourish and strengthen hair strands, thereby improving the way they look and protecting them from further damage.

Almond Oil - comes from pressing the seeds of the almond tree (almonds) and extracting oil from what comes out. Almonds have been used in many ancient cultures for their healing and health properties, including high levels of protein, omega-9 fatty acids, and vitamin E. These properties are shown to improve the shine and strength of your beard hair.

Almond oil contains all kinds of healthy ingredients for your hair like omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, vitamin E, and magnesium. Using almond oil nourishes and strengthens your hair, and is optimal for treating hair loss and damaged hair.

Almond oil is also an emollient, which means it can fill in gaps in your hair at a cellular level. That makes your hair feel smoother to the touch. Using almond oil on your beard hair provides it with a softer texture over time. Once almond oil is added into your beard hair care routine, you may also notice that your beard is easier to comb and shape.

Grapeseed Oil - is a byproduct of winemaking. After the grapes are pressed, grape seeds are left behind. Grapeseed oil is extracted from the leftover grape seeds.

Grape seed oil is great for moisturizing and conditioning beard hair because it is lighter than olive oil or coconut oil and won't leave your beard feeling greasy. It’s also odorless, so it won't leave a scent behind. Grape seed oil helps lock in moisture and prevent stray hairs, split ends, and brittle hair.

Beardruff can be prevented with grape seed oil, which is full of emollients and nutrients that can help nurture the growth of healthy skin cells. Grape seed oil also contains Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps to build tissue, and lineolic acid, a fatty acid which promotes hair and skin growth. If your hair is brittle or weak, treating it with grape seed oil can help to restore its strength and shine!

Natural Oils for Fragrance - We use a combination of natural essential oils and naturally derived fragrance oils to make up our scents. Everything we use in our products is certified 100% all natural.

Essential Oils - An essential oil is a natural product extracted from a single plant species. Not all plants produce essential oils, and in the plants that do, the essential oil may be found in the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, or fruits.

Natural Fragrance Oil - Natural Fragrance oils are also made in a laboratory but rather than being made from synthetic materials they are created by isolating one of the natural aromatic components from a complex scent such as that of an orange or rose. These single scents are called isolates. Natural fragrance oils are blends of isolates that are extracted through the same processes that are used to get essential oils.
