Short Beard Hacks! Level Up Your Facial Hair With These Tips!
September 21, 2023Some say size matters and in some cases, they’re probably not wrong…
However, when it comes to a beard, I think a properly maintained short beard can pack just as big of a punch as the big boys.
Now, having a “short beard” is completely subjective.
There is no hard and fast rule about what is and is not considered short. Short to you might be medium to some, and long according to your mom or grandma.
How Short Is A Short Beard?
So for some context, let me outline what I’m considering a short beard for this conversation.
I consider a short beard to be somewhere under 2 inches and is absolutely recognizable as intentionally grown facial hair.
It is trimmed, shaped, and doesn’t extend too far from the face.
For example, I think some of the best short beards out there right now are guys like: Chris Hemsworth, Travis Kelce, George Clooney, and of course our boy Mink.
I guess technically you could include my beard on the long end of what I’d consider a short beard.
Maintaining The Length
When it comes to short beard maintenance, they do actually take a bit more work in terms of trimming.
This is primarily because of the difference a few weeks worth of growth makes in the appearance of a short beard, whereas a couple of weeks growth on a long beard won’t be noticed much at all because of the proportion of new growth to existing beard.
So when it comes to trimming maintenance, I recommend trimming weekly to ensure your short beard style is always consistent and on point.
Find a day and time that works every week and work it into your routine for that day.
But, what makes a good short beard?
To me, a properly trimmed neckline that’s not too high, and also keeping high natural cheek lines.
The combination of these two really gives your beard a really nice full side beard profile.
You can choose to keep it all one length if you’re looking to keep it on the shorter side, or fade it from shorter sideburns into a longer length at the chin.
Both looks are fantastic in my opinion. It’s more of a personal preference.
If you’re looking to trim at home, you’ll need a quality beard trimmer with multiple guards to fade or find the right length for you.
The MT-1 is the perfect tool for the job.
If you’re going to a barber, I always recommend showing a picture of the exact length you’re looking for and tell him to start longer and take it shorter gradually if needed.
As for a grooming routine, I recommend our Complete beard kit as your go to. You want to make sure your skin and beard hairs are clean, moisturized, and styled, and our wash, conditioner, oil, and butter will do just that.
Short beards can also greatly benefit from a boars hair brush due to the thousands of bristles that make grooming your beard to lay down in the same direction a breeze.
There Is No One Size Fits All When It Comes To Beards
I’ve rocked my beard long, medium, and short, and they all come with their own benefits.
I encourage you to mix it up and try different styles to really see what gives YOU the most confidence because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what other people are rocking, what matters is that you feel good about you.
I hope you found this helpful!
