To Beard Or Not To Beard
October 07, 2019Shakespeare was born in April 1564 and according to Wikipedia is regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. From Romeo and Juliet to King Lear and McBeth, his timeless quotes, poems and plays have entertained millions over the years.
He also took a pretty hard stance on beards, and guys without one in his play Much Ado About Nothing, saying this about one of his clean-shaven counterparts...
"What should I do with him—dress him in my apparel and make him my waiting gentlewoman? He that hath a beard is more than a youth, and he that hath no beard is less than a man; and he that is more than a youth is not for me, and he that is less than a man, I am not for him."
It seems pretty cut and dry if you ask me. Having less of a beard does not make you less of a man, but not having one just might according to Shakespeare!
