Behind the Scenes of Our Seasonal Scents: The Sniff Test
Every year, one of our favorite things we get to do is bring out a handful of seasonal scents.
We get to dream up unique fragrances, build out the creative around them, and bring something fresh to the brotherhood that you cannot get all year long.
But before any of that happens, there is always a lot of testing, tweaking, and behind-the-scenes work that goes into figuring out which scents actually make the cut.
This video is a little peek into part of that process.
Where Seasonal Scents Start
Before a seasonal ever gets launched, it starts much smaller. In this case, Kane is mixing up sample beard butters using a few fragrance contenders for an upcoming seasonal.
The goal is simple. Take potential new scent profiles, mix them into unscented butter, and get a rough idea of what they will actually smell like in product form. That gives the team something real to test, react to, and compare before anything moves further.
It is not flashy, but it is a huge part of the process.
Because a fragrance might sound good on paper, but until you actually smell it in a product, you do not really know what you have, and we aren't releasing anything if the team doesn't love it!

One of the things we love most about seasonals is that they are not created in a vacuum.
From day one, Live Bearded has always been about taking feedback from the community, and building from there. What you like. What you do not. What kinds of products and fragrances you want to see us create, and so on. That feedback has shaped our products for years, and it is still a big part of how new ideas come to life today.
The Sniff Test Matters
At the end of the day, this part of the process comes down to a pretty simple question.
Does it pass the sniff test?
Once these rough butter samples are made, the team gets to try them, smell them, mess with them, and decide whether a fragrance has what it takes to become a future seasonal or whether it belongs in the vault, and let me tell ya, there is some real stinkers in the vault! (Let's just say, drop shots of Guinness and Bailey's taste a lot better than they smell!)
